What happened
GLP-1 receptor agonists — including Ozempic, Wegovy, and similar semaglutide drugs — became blockbusters for diabetes and weight loss. Two serious injuries now dominate litigation: NAION (non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy), a sudden and usually permanent loss of vision caused by reduced blood flow to the optic nerve, and severe gastroparesis, a paralysis of the stomach that can cause months of vomiting, malnutrition, and repeated hospitalization. A study in JAMA Ophthalmology found semaglutide patients developed NAION at several times the rate of patients on other medications.
Who may qualify
- Took Ozempic, Wegovy, or another GLP-1 medication, and
- Suffered sudden vision loss diagnosed as NAION or optic neuropathy, or
- Were hospitalized for or diagnosed with severe gastroparesis, ileus, or bowel obstruction
