Ozempic & GLP-1 Drug Injury Claims

GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Wegovy have been linked to sudden, often permanent vision loss (NAION) and severe stomach paralysis.

What happened

GLP-1 receptor agonists — including Ozempic, Wegovy, and similar semaglutide drugs — became blockbusters for diabetes and weight loss. Two serious injuries now dominate litigation: NAION (non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy), a sudden and usually permanent loss of vision caused by reduced blood flow to the optic nerve, and severe gastroparesis, a paralysis of the stomach that can cause months of vomiting, malnutrition, and repeated hospitalization. A study in JAMA Ophthalmology found semaglutide patients developed NAION at several times the rate of patients on other medications.

Litigation status: Federal NAION vision-loss cases were centralized in a new MDL (No. 3163, Eastern District of Pennsylvania) in December 2025, with leadership appointed in March 2026 — this litigation is in its early, active-intake stage. Gastroparesis and related GI-injury claims continue in the separate Ozempic MDL 3094 with thousands of pending cases.
