Exactech Hip & Knee Implant Claims

Exactech recalled hip, knee, and ankle implants after defective packaging allowed plastic components to oxidize and fail early.

What happened

Exactech recalled large numbers of its Optetrak, Truliant, and Vantage knee and ankle systems and Connexion GXL hip liners after determining that defective vacuum-sealed packaging exposed polyethylene components to oxygen. Oxidized plastic wears out and delaminates far too early, causing bone loss (osteolysis), component loosening, pain, swelling, and instability — and forcing revision surgeries that would never have been needed.

Litigation status: Federal cases are consolidated in an MDL, with additional cases in state courts. Patients continue to discover they have a recalled device only when symptoms appear — often years after surgery — so claims continue to be evaluated and filed.
