Depo-Provera Meningioma Claims

Women who received Depo-Provera injections and were later diagnosed with meningioma brain or spinal tumors may be entitled to compensation.

What happened

Depo-Provera (medroxyprogesterone acetate) is an injectable birth control given every three months. Peer-reviewed research has associated prolonged use with a significantly elevated risk of meningioma — a tumor that grows on the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. While often non-cancerous, meningiomas can cause vision problems, headaches, seizures, and memory loss, and frequently require brain surgery or radiation.

Litigation status: Thousands of federal cases were consolidated in MDL 3140. In June 2026, Pfizer and the plaintiffs’ leadership announced a settlement in principle for eligible claims pending in the federal MDL. Settlement terms, eligibility criteria, and treatment of claims outside the MDL are still being worked out — which makes a prompt case review especially important if you have not yet come forward.
